How To Tell Brazilian From Other Woods.

There are a lot of guitars that appear to have Brazilian back and/or sides. Some builders are quite good at making Indian Rosewood look like Brazilian. Brazilian is generally much more expensive so when in doubt, trust but verify.

There is a fool proof test that anyone can do.

Put a very small drop of acetone on a paper towel. Using your finger tip, wipe that drop on the inside surface you think might be Brazilian. Look at the color on the paper towel.

If the dot shows brown, the wood is Indian or some other wood. If the wood is burnt orange, the wood is Brazilian.

Be sure to test in a non-visible spot. Do not touch any finished surface with acetone.
