Supertone Hawaiian X-Braced Conversion

Price: $450

Back was removed, braces removed, new braces installed.

This is an odd duck. Construction is of very high quality for an el cheapo stencil guitar. Good quality thick, solid mahogany and solid spruce top. For a stencil guitar this is unusual. The neck is poplar with thick cross section common in this era. You could install a better quality mahogany neck and have a seriously nice guitar.

Used cardboard case included

I am guessing, lacking serial number or stencil, it was built in the 30s. Judging from the stencil, it was sold in Hawaii as a souvenir. Possibly some sailor bought it and brought back to the states.

With replaced bracing it sounds good, better than expected. Guitar is nicely playable with 4/64" action at 12th fret. Low E is slightly higher.

Neck was reset.
